Lahore, September 2025 – The Punjab government has started a province-wide crackdown against smoke-emitting vehicles in an effort to fight rising smog and air pollution. Officials said the campaign will target unfit vehicles, overloaded trucks, and carriers that worsen the air quality in cities.
What Action Will Be Taken?
According to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Traffic Police Punjab, Muhammad Waqas Nazir:
- Vehicles without valid fitness certificates will be stopped immediately.
- Route permits will be thoroughly checked.
- Trucks and carriers moving mud, sand, or other material without tarpaulin covers will be fined.
- Unfit vehicles will not be allowed on highways.
Nazir stressed that there will be no concessions for owners of polluting vehicles.
Why Is This Crackdown Important?
Officials revealed that the number of vehicles contributing to smog has increased by 240 percent this year. Authorities warned that if unchecked, vehicular smoke and dust could trigger severe health risks for millions, especially during the upcoming smog season.
How Will This Impact the Public?
The crackdown is expected to:
- Reduce harmful smoke emissions on highways and city roads.
- Improve air quality and lower smog levels.
- Protect citizens from breathing problems, allergies, and other pollution-related diseases.
- Encourage vehicle owners to keep their cars and trucks fit.
Final Words
The Punjab government’s anti-smog campaign marks a critical step toward cleaner air and safer roads. With strict inspections and fines in place, the message is clear: unfit vehicles will no longer be tolerated.
