• Islamabad — Supreme Court of pakistan Ordered on Tuesday that former Prime Minister Imran Khan to be shifted from jail to the hospital for medical treatment, ending the months of pressure from the family of Imran khan and party over his health.

The bench of three Judges headed by Justice Shahid Waheed said the decision was made to protect the “fundamental right to health” of the 73-year-old leader. Imran Khan has been in Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi since August 2023 after being convicted in multiple cases that IMRAN KHAN and his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party(PTI) call politically motivated.

According to the order of Court, Khan will be moved to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad within 48 hours. He will be admitted there until September 16 under hospital supervision.

The court also directed the authorities to form a medical board for his treatment. The board will contain a cardiologist, a general medicine specialist, an eye specialist, and personal physician of Imran khan.

lawyer of Imran Khan told the court that the health of Imran Khan had worsened in prison. His sons in the UK and US had repeatedly raised alarms last year, saying that IMRAN KHAN was losing vision in his right eye and also suffering from other medical issues.

“Mindful of the fundamental right, we are issuing this order to ensure the health and safety of the prisoner,” during the hearing justice Waheed said .

PTI welcomed the ruling. Party spokesperson Zulfikar Bukhari said, “We wish it had happened sooner so the eye and general health of Imran Khan would not have deteriorated this much.” He added that the party expects the order to be immediately, fully and without delay implemented.

The party also urged supporters not to gather outside Shifa Hospital. “There must not be any crowding or commotion,” secretary of PTI General Salman Akram Raja told reporters outside the court. He called the ruling “a major step, a major decision, a great blessing.”

The younger son of Imran Khan , Kasim, said that the main concern of his family was his father’s health. “We hope the government adheres to the order of Court ,” he said in a statement. He also asked for visas to visit Pakistan to see his father.

Imran Khan was Prime Minister from 2018 to 2022. He was removed through a no-confidence vote and later jailed on charges of corruption and other offenses. He denied all charges and said that they were just the part of a campaign to keep him out of politics.

He first got the fame as a cricketer. He was captain of Pakistancrivket team and hi brought pakistan cricket team to its only Cricket World Cup win in 1992. Millions of peoples of Pakistan who grew up watching him play later voted him .

The arrest of Imran Khan in May 2023 triggered nationwide protests. Some of the protests turned violent and leaded to hundreds of arrests. After these protests and arrest , Khan has appeared in court only through video links.

This year, reports said that he received eye treatment in hospital. The legal team of Imran Khan told the court at that time that he had lost most of the vision in his right eye.

The order of Supreme Court comes at a time when Pakistan’s political climate remains tense. PTI has been demanding fair trials and better prison conditions for Imran Khan and other party leaders.

Officially Government have not commented in detail yet. But they said that they will follow the instructions of Court.

Shifa International Hospital is one of best private hospital of islamabad. Security is expected to be tight during the stay of Imran Khan stay.

Doctors at the hospital will now assess Khan and decide on further treatment. The medical board will submit regular reports to the court.

Legal experts saof that this is not the first time that the high-profile prisoner in Pakistan has been moved to hospital for treatment. But the court’s direct intervention shows how serious the health concerns were.

PTI leaders said that they will monitor the situation closely. They want to make sure that IMRAN Khan gets proper care and is not put back in jail before his treatment is completed.

Human rights groups have also welcomed this move and They said that prisoners, regardless of political background, deserve proper medical care.

The wife of Imran Khan , Bushra Bibi, is also serving a prison sentence. She was sentenced late last year along with Imran Khan in a separate case. There was no word yet on her health or transfer.

The court made it clear that the stay of hospital is only for treatment . It will not affect the ongoing legal cases against imran Khan.

For now, the focus is on health of Imran Khan . His supporters across Pakistan have been praying for his recovery.

The next hearing in one of cases of Imran Khan is scheduled for next month. It is not clear if he will attend from the hospital.
